Bridal lingerie should be chosen with as much thought and consideration as a wedding gown. Same applies to a matric dance or any other special occasion. Let’s take a closer look at some dress styles and what bras will work for you…

Most girls and ladies dream of that special dress, whether it be their matric dance or wedding gown. It’s a very precious and exciting time. Trends and fashion styles are constantly changing – thank goodness for that – but it’s really important to be realistic about what style is going to compliment your body shape. Often what gets neglected is choosing the correct lingerie to help your body and outfit work as one.

If you have an off-the-shoulder or boat-neck dress, then consider a strapless bra. Some go up to a J- cup, but if you are smaller in the back (like a 32 or smaller), then those strapless bras only go up to H- cup. If you have fuller breasts, then considering a dress with straps is probably a more viable option.

Ladies with a smaller breast shape really can get away with a multitude of dress styles and cuts. However, if you have been blessed with a fuller bosom, then you may have to reconsider some styles. If you have your heart set on an open back, for instance, there’s a possibility you will have to compromise on the depth of where the back is cut, because the support of a bra predominantly comes from the back strap. So, if your breasts are heavy, a deep open back will do you a total injustice and you will no doubt be disappointed with your look.

Plunge-style dresses are beautiful and for this style one can choose a plunge bra. Most plunge bras go up to a J-cup, but there is the Matilda that goes up to a K-cup. However, if you have lost some volume in your breasts, you might feel more comfortable in a sweetheart or scoop-neck dress. From a bra perspective, your options really open up to quite a few styles, choosing from balconnets to full cups, to name a few.

Once you have decided on your dress, go lingerie shopping next. This will ensure that you have it ready for your first fitting and the dressmaker will be able to adjust the dress to where your breasts will sit while wearing your lingerie.

For brides-to-be, you are the star of the show – shining bright on the day for everyone to adore and admire. However, when planning your bridesmaids’ dresses, take a moment to really take into account what style will work best with their body shape. Not every lady looks gorgeous in a strapless dress and you don’t want your bridesmaids resenting you for putting them in a dress that is unflattering.  Sometimes choosing a dress that can accommodate a bra with shoulder straps can be even more gorgeous and your bridesmaid will thank you for it.
